School: Pleasant Valley HS; Loras College (BA); Walden University (MA)
Athletic Highlights: As a track & field athlete at Pleasant Valley High School, Alyssa Simon helped to strengthen the sprint and relay events for the girl's track and field team. A 6x Drake Relays qualifier and 10x State meet qualifier, Alyssa competed across the 100 and 200-meter events and numerous successful relays. At the state meet as a senior in 2014, she helped her team to a 3rd place medal in the sprint medley relay and in 2013, secured another 3rd place finish with her relay teammates in the distance medley relay. The distance medley relay time of 4:04.49 continues to stand as the school record in the event. Alyssa was on Pleasant Valley's state runner-up team in 2013.
Alyssa continued her track and field career at Loras College in Dubuque, IA. As a three-year participant, Alyssa set numerous personal bests in the 55m, 60m, 200m, and 400m events and also competed in the javelin. During her time with the Duhawks, she was on their top 10 list all-time in the 60-meter dash and is on their indoor top-ten list as a relay participant in the 4 x 200-meter relay. She is also on their school's outdoor top-10 list with multiple relay groups across the 4 x 100, 4 x 200, and 4 x 400-meter relay events.
Coaching Highlights: Alyssa completed the 2024 season as her 4th year in a volunteer assistant role with the girl's track and field team. Alyssa works primarily with the short sprint and relay event groups, and is a guiding light to our young women both in her development of our short sprinters and as a mentor. Working with our sprint relay groups, the Spartans continued to see success under Coach Schultz's guidance. Working with our sprinters, and our 4 x 200 and distance medley relay events, the Spartans qualified for the Drake Relays in the 4 x 200m relay and broke the school record in the distance medley relay in 2024. The distance medley relay group, placing 2nd at the state meet, ran the 7th fastest time all-time in Iowa HS history.
Alyssa is also a freshman assistant softball coach with the Spartans and completed her 3rd season with the team in 2024. Coach Schultz will join the team in a permanent assistant coaching role beginning with the 2025 season.
