Assistant Coach: Brianna Finnegan
Hometown: Colesburg, IA

School: Clayton Ridge High School, University of Dubuque (BA), University of Northern Iowa (MA), Montana State University (MS)

Athletic Highlights:  A multi- and four sport athlete in high school, she participated in volleyball, basketball, track & field, and golf. While she had initially planned to pursue volleyball in college, Coach Finnegan participated in track & field year for one season focusing on the javelin, and played on the UD women's golf team for three seasons.

Coaching Highlights: Coach Finnegan joined the Spartans track and field staff in 2025. Prior to her arrival, she was an assistant track & field coach at Dubuque Hempstead High School where she was instrumental in many facets of their team's development and success in recent seasons. During the 2023 and 2024 seasons, Coach Finnegan assisted with their sprints, long jump, and hurdle events. In 2024, she helped lead their shuttle hurdle relay team to the state meet where they had not qualified in that event since 2011. Prior to coaching track & field at Hempstead, she was a strength and conditioning coach at the high school.

Coach Finnegan stepped right into the fray in 2025, leading an established group of veterans and ushering in the future of our throws program. Under her supervision, she guided athletes to two new school records. Senior Mackenzie Fah broke one of the Spartans' oldest records in the shot put with a season best of 43 feet and  11 3/4" inches during the season. Gabi Ragins, one of the top discus throwers in the state during her junior and senior seasons, threw a lifetime best of 157 feet, 10 inches breaking the school record set the season prior by teammate Reese Goodlet. Both Mackenzie and Gabi finished 3rd in their respective events at last year's state meet and were medalists at the 2025 Drake Relays. Coach Finnegan has continued to put her stamp on our throws group with a well-rounded focus on strength and plyometric development, nutrition, and skill development and the interest she has generated in the growth of our field events.
